The search is off for a company to run a medium security corrections facility in Montana, at least for a little while.
On Friday the Montana Department of Corrections put a hold on its Request for Proposal for a 120-bedroom medium-security facility.
Corrections Director Mike Ferriter says the department will take 60 to 90 days to assess population trends and potential impacts on future incarceration needs.
An increased emphasis on re-entry strategies for inmates transitioning back into society is expected to reduce the rate at which inmates return to prison.
Ferriter said, "We think it's prudent to focus additional attention on this issue. I don't believe we can be too careful in making decisions on how to spend tax payers' money and in our approaches to safely return inmates to the communities of Montana."
