It was a deadly weekend in Western Montana as six people were killed in three separate accidents.
Four people died on Saturday evening when a 17-year-old fell asleep at the wheel near Libby, woke up and then over-corrected, slamming into a mini-van near Happy's Inn on U.S. Highway 2. The 17-year old was ejected and died while a 59-year old woman along with the 13-year old boy and the 12-year old girl all died as a result of the wreck. Officials say they were all wearing seatbelts and no one involved in the accident had been drinking.
A 46-year old Missoula woman died on Sunday afternoon after a three vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 93 near Ravalli. The Montana Highway Patrol reports a SUV towing a vehicle that lost its wheel sparked the accident which killed the motorcyclist. The trailer's wheel traveled across the road and was hit by a SUV headed in the opposite direction. The SUV driver lost control, spun out and then rolled over, eventually striking the Missoula woman who was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
The third accident happened on Saturday evening in Clinton. A man driving an ATV on some private land in the Wallace Creek area apparently lost control while turning onto a trail. The vehicle rolled over on top of the victim, who was not found for at least 20 minutes. MHP troopers say it's not clear if the victim had been drinking prior to the crash.
