Montana is now into the second week of the rifle season for wolves and harvest numbers are beginning to rise.

So far, 44 wolves have been harvested for the 2011 hunt.

MT FWP spokesman Ron Aasheim says he is comfortable with where the numbers are right now, but if the quota of 220 is not met by the end of December then there is some thought on extending the season.

Aasheim noted, "People are just, they find out just like all the rest of us what it is like, some people I am sure have had places where they have seen wolves ahead of the season and they went back to those areas, a few of those kinds of folks, I just think it is kind of intriguing we are all learning together."

The wolf season is scheduled to close on December 31st.
