The Montana Office of Public Instruction is partnering with the Hopa Mountain Foundation to buy books for rural and tribal families.
OPI is purchasing nearly 5,500 books for families who can't afford them. The Hopa Mountain Foundation is matching OPI's purchase.
MT State Superintendent Denise Juneau says the books will primarily help children under the age of six. Juneau says the books will help prepare kids to become successful readers.
Juneau noted, "Hopa Mountain Foundation came and approached us and they do great work out in the communities across Montana and they really work heavily on early childhood literacy and making sure that good books get in the hands of parents. They do literacy training with parents and communities and it seemed like a good partnership."
The Hopa Mountain Foundation is based in Bozeman; you can learn more about the organization on its website.
