Jimmy Wilson and the rest of the Griz defense will face quite a challenge in San Luis Obispo. Cal Poly's option attack took a while to get going last week against Humbolt State.
But they finished the game with almost 300 yards rushing and their top 4 backs all averaged over five yards a carry. Both head coaches talked about how the Mustangs unique blocking scheme makes them a tough team to prepare for.
"Well, number one, we don't have to block everybody based on the offense. So, that's a part of it. And number 2, you know, we want to be at people's legs," said Cal Poly Head Coach Tim Walsh. "We want to play lower than they play. And, it's all within the legal scheme of things, and it changes the perspective."
"They're always moving, and they're always cutting you, and they're into your legs. [It's] very difficult to practice that," explained Griz Head Coach Robin Pflugrad. "We have to be...counter-active on that as well. And, we have to be able to get through those cuts, or our speed will be nullified."
Saturday's game gets underway at 7:05 p.m. and can be seen on the CW Montana.
