According to the City-County Health Department in Great Falls, as many as two-thirds of children who received an initial H1N1 flu vaccine did not get the necessary second dose, lowering the amount of protection from the flu virus.

A total of 2,100 children were vaccinated during the H1N1 vaccine clinics at area schools at the end of the Fall semester.

Recently, health officials went back into schools to give the second dose but only about 700 kids participated.

CCHD official Kate Marone explained, "We really want to encourage parents to get their children ages nine and under their second booster dose because your child isn't fully protected until they've had that booster dose."

Children should receive the second dose at least 28 days after the first dose.
