Drivers on US 89 just east of Great Falls may have been wondering why the chicken couldn't cross the road on Tuesday, as scores of frozen chickens were strewn all over the road, leaving clean-up crews in disbelief.
Around 11:15 a.m., a pickup truck carrying boxes of frozen chickens rolled off the side of the road just east of mile marker 289.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the driver was heading west into Great Falls, over-corrected, and the truck rolled across all four lanes.
The Sand Coulee Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the accident and cleared the chicken from the road by spraying it off with water.
For all who responded, it was definitely an unusual clean up job. MHP trooper David Baggs noted, "Willy's Auto Service has a wrecker service responding, they get to clean up the chickens. Who knows what they're going to do with them.. Probably just load them back into the truck."
The driver, a middle-aged man, was transported to Benefis hospital in Great Falls with minor injuries.
Baggs said the driver was not impaired or intoxicated, but they are looking into a possible issue with the brakes, and the cause of the accident is still being investigated.
