120th Fighter Wing, RED HORSE honored

Montana Air National Guard's 120th Fighter Wing and 219th RED HORSE Squadron are recipients of the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

The criteria for the A.F.O.U.A covers specific unit accomplishments during a training year such as overall mission, inspection results, community involvement, deployments, readiness and exercises and awards and honors.

Completing the transition from the F-16 to the F-15 more than one year ahead of schedule earned the 120th the recognition.

Additionally, the units Explosive Ordnance Disposal team members completed 200 combat missions, clearing 100 Improvised Explosive Devices.

RED HORSE supported operation Enduring Freedom by engineering 65 construction projects in six countries.

More than 100 units competed for the Outstanding Unit Award, 36 received the honor.

Both the 120th Fighter Wing and the 219th RED HORSE units last received this award in 2005.

Montana's units compete annually for the award, against all U.S. Air Force units, both active and reserve.
